MFPP
Tool Kit
MFPP’s most notable achievement has been the completion and
use of our publication: Model Concepts for Forest Practice Legislation – A “Tool
Kit” for Progressive Forest Policy Change.
The “Tool
Kit” as it has become known, combines our
Advisory Committee’s collective knowledge to develop the
structure for an environmentally protective state forest practice
act, and to flesh the individual elements that such a law could
include, what the goals and objectives of those elements should
be, recommended statutory language for these provisions, and supplemental
materials useful in state campaigns to enact such legislation.
Bud Watson has used the Tool Kit provisions to evaluate gaps in
coverage in Virginia law relating to forestry. His demonstration
of this technique to attendees at the April 2004 Legislative Summit
demonstrated what a powerful means the Tool Kit provides in all
states.
